Tax Deadline Moved to July 15

Dear Member,

This morning Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced that the federal government is moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15. In a Tweet, the Secretary wrote “All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties”.

The NYSSCPA has played an ongoing role in ensuring this deadline was postponed. The NYSSCPA joined the AICPA, other State Societies and many other organizations in working around the clock asking the federal administration to act swiftly to relieve our members and their clients of any penalties or hardships that may be caused by the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 as it relates to the April 15 tax deadline.

We called on Governor Cuomo and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to also postpone New York state tax deadlines to meet with the federal extension, which we were just notified has been passed.  The New York state deadline will mirror the federal deadline of July 15 for all taxpayers and businesses.

As your advocates, you have our word that during the difficult and uncertain times, we will always be working for you, our members.

Sincerely,

Joanne S. Barry, CAE
