The PCAOB has started a new program that brings practicing auditors into its regulatory work. Through the Audit Practitioner Fellowship Program, experienced auditors will work with PCAOB staff on setting standards and related projects.

Selected fellows will spend two years working in the PCAOB’s Office of the Chief Auditor. They will use their experience to help develop and review both new and existing auditing standards. The program aims to gather ideas from auditors who are currently active, especially as the profession adapts to new technology and changes in financial reporting.

According to Accounting Today, PCAOB Chair Demetrios Logothetis said the program will help the board stay connected to what is happening in the field. “This fellowship program will enable the PCAOB to tap into the deep expertise of professionals with in-the-field perspectives on the latest technologies that are reshaping the financial reporting ecosystem,” Logothetis said in a statement. “Their insights will strengthen our ability to anticipate what lies ahead and enhance our understanding of the most pressing issues affecting auditing.”

Applications for the fellowship are open until May 15, 2026. Selected participants will work with PCAOB staff to help guide the board’s approach to auditing and oversight and setting standards.
