The New York State Fast Food Wage Board is planning on Wednesday to recommend that fast food companies pay their workers a $15 an hour minimum wage, according to the Wall Street Journal. The move is likely in reaction to a series of walkouts, strikes and other protests from workers over the past few years, according to Forbes, and mirrors similar measures in other cities such as Seattle, though this one is unusual in that it targets only one industry. The wage board was assembled in May by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to investigate whether compensation for workers in the fast food industry was sufficient to ensure they could provide for their own life and health, according to CBS, and with the upcoming recommendation by the board, it would appear that its members believe the answer is "no." While the recommendation itself does not carry the force of law, it will if the labor commissioner than signs off on it, according to Forbes. The move does not require legislative approval.
