The number of employers offering some kind of summer Fridays program has surged in just a short time, growing from 22 percent in 2015 to 42 percent today, according to USA Today. The results come from a survey of more than 200 employers, conducted by business and technology research firm Gartner. Employers see programs like this as a cheap way to boost staff morale, at least compared to raises or bonuses, with USA Today noting that many workers aren't terribly productive on Fridays anyway. This is supported by research from Accountemps, which surveyed HR managers and found that people are most productive on Tuesdays and are least productive on Fridays. Meanwhile, another survey found that the least productive time of day is 2:55 p.m. versus the most productive times of 10:26 a.m. and 4:18 p.m.
