The IRS has introduced a new online Tax Debt Help tool as it expands its digital services. Released shortly after the April tax deadline, the tool helps individuals and businesses figure out how to resolve unpaid tax bills, according to Accounting Today

Available on IRS.gov, the tool asks users about their finances and tax debt. Based on their answers, it suggests options such as payment plans, temporary delays, or offers in compromise. The goal is to make the process clearer and easier, even for people who are not tax experts.

“This new Tax Debt Help tool reflects the agency’s commitment to making tax compliance clearer, more accessible, and less intimidating for taxpayers,” said IRS CEO Frank Bisignano. He also said the tool is meant to help users “understand the paths available and take confident next steps.”

Users can review their options without sharing personal information, which protects their privacy while still offering helpful advice. This launch is part of the IRS’s shift toward more self-service tools, so people do not have to depend as much on phone or in-person help.
