IRS Extending Due Dates on Notices on Account of Mail Delays

Taxpayers receiving notices from the IRS about a balance due might also get an insert telling them that they have more time than the letter actually says, according to Accounting Today. The new dates have been set because the IRS hasn't been able to print the notices before due to its offices being closed. The new notices will therefore contain an insert telling the recipient that the due date on the letter has actually been extended. This was seen as the more reasonable option, rather than the IRS reprogramming its system to create new notices. The new due dates will be either July 10 or July 15, depending on the type of tax return and the original due date.

According to Accounting Today, if taxpayers have questions about their balances due, they should visit the website listed on the notice or call the phone number shown.
