The IRS awarded a four-year, $32 million contract for data delivery services to government services provider Maximus. Accounting Today reported.
Under the terms of the contract, the McLean, Va.-based contractor will provide development support to two mission-critical systems at the IRS: helping it identify and develop data delivery service models and improving the technical components and processes already in place at the agency.
The company will also consult with the IRS on the design, building and deployment of data services to the IRS's internal and external stakeholders (such as employees, taxpayers and tax professionals) while refining and evolving the IRS Enterprise Data solution, the company stated. Maximus also plans to provide continuous, high-availability services to operate, sustain and manage databases in support of the IRS's overall data distribution services (DDS) strategy.
The purpose of the contract is to help to improve the taxpayer experience, one key objective of IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel and the agency’s Strategic Operating Plan.
“Maximus and the IRS have a track record of successful projects together, and this is another opportunity for us to collaborate and help move the agency forward,” said Maximus Vice President Larry Reagan said in the company’s announcement. “For example, one of the objectives through this work is to gain critical insights from data through more efficient visualization to enable leadership to make decisions quickly and effectively. It’s the type of work Maximus excels at with our federal partners, as we map out a technology strategy that meets the mission.”
