How to Get Your LinkedIn Profile Ignored by Recruiters

Professional recruiters spend a lot of time reading through profiles on LinkedIn. In a recent article in FastCompany, some of them discuss the biggest mistakes they see in how people construct these profiles. According to them, if you want recruiters to pass over your profile without giving it, and any career opportunities they might offer you, a second thought, then you need to:

1) Make sure it hasn't been updated in a long time, particularly by treating it more like an online resume than an active portfolio of your work.

2) Have a bland generic headline that gives no insight into who you are or what you do.

3) Treat the items singularly rather than as parts of a coherent narrative you're trying to express about yourself.

4) Have absolutely nothing personal in your profile, making every single thing about business and nothing more, giving it a sterile feel that lacks personality.

5) Write no content on LinkedIn whatsoever: no articles, no posts, nothing. There should be no real activity whatsoever on your page that gives people more information about you other than a dry list of where you've worked.

Do all these things, according to FastCompany, and you'll be on your way to going nowhere in your career!
