Four NYSSCPA members were among the 25 ‘Most Powerful Women in Accounting’ honored by the AICPA and CPA Practice Advisor. They are NYSSCPA Vice President Orumé Hays, along with Lara AbrashKelly Grier and Dawnella Johnson. The awards were presented during a ceremony at the AICPA ENGAGE conference in Las Vegas on June 8.

The honorees were selected based on the following criteria: being the driving force to create a culture of excellence, innovation and inclusion; serving as one of the top leaders in the accounting profession, whose leadership has had a demonstrable effect upon the accomplishments of the organization with which she is associated; being a mentor, sponsor and a role model—someone who stands out in her ability to encourage and help those around her thrive and flourish; and doing work that is influential and is having a positive impact on the accounting profession as a whole.

Hays is founder and managing director at Hays CPA, LLC. Abash is chair and chief executive officer at Deloitte & Touche LLP. Grier is U.S. chair and managing partner Ernst & Young. Johnson is chair of the board of directors, partner and global internal audit leader at Crowe LLP.
