The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) are inviting accounting faculty to nominate graduate students for their Postgraduate Technical Assistant (PTA) Program, which offers a year-long, hands-on experience in standard-setting process.
PTAs work alongside senior technical staff, conducting accounting research, preparing memos, and drafting due process documents. They also participate to board members or external stakeholders.
According to an email to accounting faculty (cited by CPA Practice Advisor), the program provides exposure to a range of professional fields, including public, private, and governmental accounting, and has a strong reputation among employers.
Many former PTAs have gone on to leadership roles in major accounting firms, Fortune 500 companies, and government institutions.
Schools may nominate up to four candidates, one for each FASB and GASB summer and winter session. And applicants should have completed or be near completion of a graduate program or a 150-credit-hour requirement. Strong writing skills, leadership, and interest in technical accounting are key and all submissions are due by Nov. 30, 2025.
