A poll of 850 chief financial officers has found that, for only the second time in the 21 years the survey has been conducted, attracting and retaining qualified employees is their number one concern, according to CFO.com, which did the study alongside Duke University. The struggle for talent is believed to be inhibiting company growth, as 89 percent of respondents said that they don't expect their companies will be able to pursue the full array of projects they'd like, as many cannot hire the staff they need, especially those who have experience in managing ambitious growth initiatives. Even outside managers, though, 52.3 percent said they have trouble finding potential hires with the specific skills they need, 28.4 percent said they struggle finding workers who can be reliable, and 27.3 said they weren't hiring because they weren't sure how long they would need a larger workforce and would be costly to cut back later.
