Business and Finance Professions Least Dangerous According to Study

SafetyA survey of the most dangerous professions in the country show that business and finance jobs aren't really that dangerous at all, ranking at the very bottom for deaths on the job, according to Bloomberg. Drawing from U.S. Department of Labor statistics, it was found that over the last seven years only .45 business and finance workers per 100,000 died on the job. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics there are 6,828,940 people employed in this sector, including CPAs. 6,828,940 divided by 100,000, multiplied by .45 comes to about 30 deaths on the job total. This is in stark contrast to the most dangerous profession, fishers, who suffer 131.52 fatalities for every 100,000.

So, CPAs can all breathe a little easier knowing that phrases like "work was murder today," "this audit is killing me," and "I'm bored to death" remain, thankfully, far from literal.

In general, CPAs are more likely to live longer: a 2007 article in the London Telegraph said "Middle-class professionals such as doctors and accountants are outliving builders and cleaners by as much as eight years."

Though, it does make one wonder what, exactly, happened with those 30 people in business and finance jobs who died at work.
