Companies are increasingly turning to corporate cards for their employees versus reimbursing them for expenses, with 20 percent saying they plan to invest more in company-backed cards this year, according to the Wall Street Journal. One reason is that firms are realizing that not everyone can afford to wait for an expense approval before being reimbursed (also to note, they may not have anything to reimburse in the first place). Further, cards allow for expenses to be tracked and confirmed much more easily, which reduces processing delays. There's also the fact that more and more commerce in general is done through credit and debit cards, and so card usage by companies is expanding to meet these economic changes. The Journal said that the biggest challenge right now is making sure workers know what expenses can and cannot be charged.
