Is the accounting professional of tomorrow an endangered species? Supply and demand seems to be a key issue; why are students not flocking to such a stable and lucrative career? Are they settling for a different occupation or course of study because the academic rigor is too difficult? This article is a review of a typical academic program and the possibility of adding certain course requirements that would increase academic support while maintaining the scope and rigor of the accounting program. It discusses the potential impact and implementation of two alternatives: a bridge course and a boot camp option. In this author's opinion, both will better serve the long-term success of professional accounting students, and thus the profession.
