In BriefFor many companies, an audit is a necessary part of business operations. For others, however, it is not, and such businesses are increasingly declining the service. The authors posit that the accretion of requirements over the decades has added cost but failed to provide com mensurate value for those businesses that have a choice on whether to engage an auditor. They suggest reeval uating procedures and requirements with the goal of a simpler, better, less expensive audit.
