Author Michael Lewis created quite a stir when he wrote in his book Flash Boys that the “stock market at bottom was rigged” and that the “icon of global capitalism was a fraud.” He also contended that the “U.S. financial system had always been corrupt,” “the stock market was a class system rooted in speed, of haves and have-nots,” and “what once had been the most public, democratic financial market had become, in spirit, more like a private viewing of a stolen work of art.” Lewis repeated his rigged market assertion on a 60 Minutes interview, adding that the “victims are everyone who has an investment in the stock market.”
