In February 2012, the New York Benefit Corporation Law went into effect. It allows for a new form of corporation that operates for profit while also providing a public benefit. In April 2012, Douglas E. Singer, one of this article's authors, reported on the law in the Trusted Professional ("What NY's Benefit Corporation Law Means for Businesses and CPAs").
