TechCrunch is reporting the discovery of a server with 419 million phone numbers linked with Facebook accounts, one publicly accessible with no password lock whatsoever. The information includes 133 million records on U.S.-based Facebook users, 18 million records of users in the United Kingdom and more than 50 million records on users in Vietnam.

The security researcher who discovered the server said it is unknown who owns it and for what purposes, but the information contained therein could theoretically have been used for anything from spam phone calls to identity theft. It is also unknown whether it has been accessed by others, and whether the information has actually been used.

The data was taken down once the web host was notified of its existence, though apparently it had been up for at least a month. Facebook itself said the data appears to be old, having come from before the company restricted phone number information more than a year ago.
