A survey of more than 5,000 CPAs across the country has found that they're generally feeling pretty good about being CPAs, particularly when it comes to compensation, according to the Journal of Accountancy. Of those polled, 81 percent expect to see a raise in the coming year, with most thinking it would be around 5 percent. This would track well with what they've already seen, as 80 percent said they already experienced a salary increase over the past 12 months, with four percent being the average.

The poll also found that the average CPA makes about $119,000 in salary a year, excluding bonuses. New CPAs with less than one year's experience earns an average of $66,000 per year, while those with more than 20 years experience average about $152,000 a year in salary.
