College educated workers are increasingly worried about losing their jobs to technology, a recent Gallup poll revealed.

Twenty-two percent of college-educated workers worry that technology will render their jobs obsolete, a 12 percent increase from 2021, the poll found. While this is not the largest number of workers that Gallup surveyed between Aug. 1 and 23, it is the largest increase among all groups.

The biggest fears of becoming obsolete (FOBO) were among those aged 18 to 34 (28 percent) and those with household incomes of less than $100,000 (27 percent). FOBO among those without a college degree edged up slightly, from 22 percent in 2021 to 24 percent in 2023.

FOBO among all U.S. workers jumped from 15 percent in 2021 to 22 percent in 2023. This was not their biggest fear, however; 31 percent feared loss of their benefits, and 24 percent feared reduction of their wages.
