Organize Your Time Like a Pro

RobotEveryone’s had days where they feel like there’s an endless and nigh-insurmountable list of tasks to accomplish. While sometimes that’s unavoidable (hello, busy season), there are ways to build a time management system that cuts down your stress. LinkedIn and Inc recently offered some advice on how to better organize your schedule, which we boiled down into a few simple dos and don’ts.

  • Plan your day. This may seem obvious, but it’s important to have a game plan that lays out how you spend your time and what you want to achieve with it. With a plan in mind, you can easily tell when you’re straying off course and get back on track.
  • Figure out your priorities. Don’t get bogged down responding to emails or phone calls that aren’t on your priority list. Instead, set aside blocks of time where you settle the small stuff, so you can work on what’s most important without interruptions.
  • Recognize that some things won’t make your list. You don’t have all the time in the world, so know what you can fit into a day and what you can’t. It’s ok to say “no, sometime later” if you’re swamped.

  • Leave temptations lying around. You probably already know what always distracts you. If it’s your phone, switch it off (if possible) and stash it in your bag. If it’s social media, don’t even allow yourself a glance.
  • Multitask. Numerous studies have shown that multitasking is not effective, and it’s better to simply take your to-do list one step at a time. Not only will you be more efficient, you’ll also produce better work!
