About the Cybersecurity Committee

Cybersecurity Community Objective

The objective of this Community is to provide a forum for addressing the technical, educational, and professional needs of the Society’s membership specifically related to the growing need for Cybersecurity education and understanding in the accounting profession.

The Community undertakes the following activities to meet this stated objective:

  • Holds regularly scheduled meetings to discuss recent technical, legislative, and industryrelated developments including presentations by subject matter experts and industryprofessionals.
  • Each meeting includes an open forum to discuss pressing cybersecurity issues.
  • Supports the Society in identifying and educating emerging technical cybersecurity issuesand how they relate to the accounting profession.
  • Establishes community liaisons with other Society communities where applicable.
  • Presents CPE technical sessions for the Society.
  • Sponsors a conference each year, or participates in other Society communities’conferences,  featuring relevant industry speakers, for members and interested parties.
  • Contributes articles to Society publications.
  • Addresses technical questions from Society members.
  • Proposes and drafts comment letters to authoritative and regulatory bodies on relevant regulatory, compliance, and cybersecurity issues.
  • Assimilate future and current Society members such as accounting, business scholars,lawyers, and insurance professionals, in the Community’s activity.

 

Who Should Join

Society members with expertise or an interest in cybersecurity and information technology should consider joining this community. Membership provides a unique opportunity to network with other professionals in the field as well as to support the Society and the profession.
