Cybersecurity and Technology Risks Committee

Who We Are

The objective of this committee is to provide a forum for addressing the technical, educational, and professional needs of the Society’s membership specifically related to the growing need for Cybersecurity education, technology risk  and understanding in the accounting profession.

What We Do

The committee undertakes the following activities to meet this stated objective:

• Holds regularly scheduled meetings to discuss recent technical, legislative, and industry related developments including presentations by subject matter experts and industry professionals.
• Each meeting includes an open forum to discuss pressing cybersecurity issues and topics that may include current and anticipated technology, and regulatory matters related to attestation and reporting.
• Supports the Society in identifying and educating emerging technical cybersecurity and technology risk issues and how they relate to the accounting profession
• Increase the information technology awareness  among Society members.
• Establishes committee liaisons with other Society communities where applicable.
• Presents CPE technical sessions for the Society.
• Sponsors a conference each year, or participates in other Society communities’ conferences,  featuring relevant industry speakers, for members and interested parties.
• Contributes articles to Society publications.
• Addresses technical questions from Society members.
• Proposes and drafts comment letters to authoritative and regulatory bodies on relevant regulatory, compliance, and cybersecurity as well as technology risk issues.
• Assimilate future and current Society members such as accounting, business scholars, lawyers, and insurance professionals, in the committee's activity.

Who Should Join

All Society members with expertise or an interest in cybersecurity and information technology should consider joining this committee. We also encourage the involvements of students in areas such as business, accounting and information systems. Membership provides a unique opportunity to network with other professionals in the field as well as to support the Society and the profession.
