Aiming to increase membership and engage with members beyond the Binghamton area
By Michael Mattick
Southern Tier President
I am excited to have this opportunity to serve as president of our local chapter of the NYSSCPA. Though my wife is a native of the area, I moved to the Southern Tier relatively recently, in 2014. I am from Charlotte, N.C., originally. I lived in Philadelphia for almost 15 years before moving here. I come from a family of tax practitioners. I started in the tax business in 1996 and began working for a metro Philadelphia CPA firm in 2001. After working with a local firm in Endicott, N.Y., I opened my firm, Mattick CPA, P.C., in 2023.
The Southern Tier is a great place to live and work. There are so many good people and quality small businesses here. Being involved with our chapter has been more rewarding than I could have imagined. Though I might have been reluctant to take on the responsibility originally, I could not be happier that I did. It has given me the opportunity to build relationships inside and outside of the CPA community and to give back to this organization. I believe strongly that when we work together, our clients get the best results. Our chapter and this organization have allowed me the opportunity to really put that into practice. Thank you to all of you who have provided a helping hand over the years and to all of those who have reached out to me.
I look forward to continuing the tradition of this chapter and helping to grow our membership. I’m also excited to continue improving the events and resources we offer to our members and our communities. I’d also like to reach out to CPAs in our chapter who are not in the metro Binghamton area. We would love to have you more involved. I welcome a phone call or meeting with any of our chapter members or potential members. Please let me know what we can do to make the chapter more accessible and valuable to all of you in our area. Thank you for the nomination.

The Southern Tier is located on the Pennsylvanian border of New York State, lying northwest of New York City and southwest of the State Capitol of Albany. Containing Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Delaware, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, and Tompkins counties, the region boasts some of the state’s finest natural resources and agriculture, as well as significant educational institutions and readiness for manufacturing companies.
In addition to housing both a booming tourism industry and dozens of prominent universities such as Binghamton and Cornell, the Southern Tier is also the location of many businesses that employ over 350,000 highly-skilled workers.
While mostly known for industrial machinery and materials processing, and contributing to the electronics, imaging, and simulation industries, businesses choose the Southern Tier for its proximity to the marketplace, abundant natural resources, and its extremely well-educated workforce.
