Ms. Diane Shust, Deputy Chief of Staff
Mr. Conor Walsh, Legislative Director
Office of Congressman Thomas Suozzi
214 Cannon House Office Building
Washington, DC 2055
Dear Ms. Shust and Mr. Walsh,
On behalf of the Queens and Long Island members of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA), I hope you will share the attached letter with Congressman Thomas Suozzi. The letter outlines an efficient solution for the federal government to use already-existing payroll providers as it distributes payroll funding to small businesses to help keep those businesses from closing their doors.
According to a recent Small Business Survey Report there are over 162,000 small business within Congressman’s Suozzi’s district. Our great state has been called the state of small businesses, but if our leaders do not act swiftly, many of those businesses will be forced to close their doors permanently.
Small businesses are the backbone and the heartbeat of our nation’s economy and employ nearly 60 million people nationally. We understand that priority one is safety, but we also need our leaders to understand the impact that small businesses closing permanently will have on worker’s lives and business operations, so it is vital that we do everything we can to protect, and aid small business and their employees and owners during this critical crisis.
We are proud to know that Congressman Suozzi is a member of the Congressional Caucus on CPAs and Accountants, and our membership of over 24,000 members statewide are counting on him to lead the fight for our profession.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions, and thank you for your work to lead our country during these unprecedented days and weeks.
Sincerely,
Joanne S. Barry, CAE
CEO/Executive Director
