NEW YORK (December 11, 2012) – Members of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants are volunteering their expertise to help New York City small business owners who have been hurt by Superstorm Sandy.
More than 100 members of NYSSCPA have agreed to volunteer with NYC's Department of Small Business Services (SBS) and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYEDC) to provide pro bono services over the next three months to small business owners across all five boroughs who need help with insurance claims, personal injury claims, measuring business interruption, economic damage calculations and business valuations.
Additionally, the NYSSCPA volunteers will also assist with data collection, preparation and analysis for tax filings and payment issues; casualty-loss deductions, re-licensing and other general business questions.
“Service is at the core of our profession and a central tenet of our Society,” said NYSSCPA President Gail M. Kinsella. “I’m proud of members who are volunteering to connect business owners with resources and information to help them rebuild their livelihoods.”
The Business Solutions program is also expediting low-interest emergency loans of up to $25,000, as well supplemental grants, funded by the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, of up to $10,000 to small business owners.
