New York State Society of CPAs Announces Search for CEO/ Executive Director
NEW YORK – (December 14, 2021) – New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) announced they have retained Sterling | Martin Associates (SMA) to conduct the executive search for the NYSSCPA’s new Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director.
In October of 2021, NYSSCPA current Executive Director/CEO Joanne S. Barry, CAE, informed the NYSSCPA Board of Directors of her intention to retire at the conclusion of the NYSSCPA fiscal year in May, 2022.
Barry, who has served as Executive Director/CEO since January of 2010, has become a pillar in the accounting profession for New York and nationwide, being named an Accounting Today Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting for ten consecutive years. Throughout Barry’s forty-year tenure at the Society, she has also served as the Executive Director of the Foundation for Accounting Education, Inc. and the Moynihan Scholarship Fund, Inc, and Treasurer for the CPA Political Action Committee.
Sterling | Martin Associates is a national executive search firm founded in 2006. They specialize in working with association and nonprofit organization on senior-level executive searches. SMA has worked with the American Red Cross, the California Society of CPAs, National Association of Broadcasters, and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, to name a few.
The Executive Director/CEO is responsible, in partnership with the Board of Directors, for the success of the NYSSCPA. Together, the Board of Directors and the Executive Director/CEO ensure NYSSCPA’s value to the members, the accomplishment of NYSSCPA’s mission and vision, and the accountability of NYSSCPA to its diverse constituents.
The Board delegates responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the Executive Director/CEO, and the Executive Director/CEO has the authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board.
