    EBP Expert Named President of Foundation for Accounting Education

    David Evangelista, a nationally known employee benefit plans advisor and auditor, was elected president of the Foundation for Accounting Education’s (FAE) Board of Trustees. Evangelista is a principal at Cranford, N.J.-based MSPC Certified Public Accountants and Advisors PC (FY15 net revenue of $9.9 million). His one-year term as FAE president began June 1. Established in 1972, the FAE is a 501 (c)(3) organization that operates the CPE programs for the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA).

    Adelphi University announced this week that their Robert B. Willumstad School of Business will kick off the annual Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) summer program, designed to introduce minority high school juniors in New York State to the accounting profession. Approximately 40 local students will participate in Adelphi's five-day program, which begins Saturday, June 25.

    Tips for grandparents who want to help with college tuition

    A college education was once regarded as a relatively affordable route to lifelong prosperity, but in recent years it has become a hobbling financial burden for many families. As a result, older generations are often stepping up to help their families with college funding. According to a Fidelity Investments survey of its investors — a more affluent group than the average — more than half of grandparents "are saving or plan to start saving to help pay for college costs."

    Chart-topping singer Dionne Warwick sang for the New York State Society of CPAs at the NYSSCPA Foundation for Accounting Education’s annual gala Thursday evening, raising funds for young students interested in entering the accounting field. The gala raised funds in support of the NYSSCPA’s Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program, a college readiness program that helps students of color enter the accounting profession, where they have been historically underrepresented.

For the last 30 years, the NYSSCPA has operated the free, three to five day college exploration summer program which introduces youth - specifically those in groups historically underrepresented in the accounting profession - to the possibilities of becoming a CPA.
