ALBANY—At its April meeting, the New York State Board for Public Accountancy (NYSBPA) addressed a bevy of agenda items, the most pressing of which included the proposed changes to state education requirements at the college level, a proposal to standardize core ethics continuing professional education requirements in the Northeast region and the Board’s request for more information on the Center for Public Company Audit Firms’ (CPCAF) Alert No. 93.

State Taxes Too High, Comptroller Says

IRS: New Record for E-filed Returns

NEW YORK—The Internal Revenue Service recently reported that the number of taxpayers filing their returns electronically set a new record during the 2006 filing season, and refunds issued through direct deposit increased as well. As of April 21, 70 million returns were submitted through IRS e-file, an increase of 6.2 percent over 2005, the IRS report stated. Continue...

Hevesi Keynotes FAE Auditing Conference

The Foundation for Accounting Education’s “Government and Public School Audit Conference: Safeguarding the Public Trust” spotlighted new legislation in the wake of accounting and reporting issues that New York public schools, public authorities and government entities have recently faced.
