Spitzer Budget Aims for Change, No Tax Increases

ALBANY—On the last day of January, Gov. Eliot Spitzer made public his proposal for the 2007-2008 New York state budget, which totals $120.6 billion all told. Key initiatives laid out in the proposal include reforming the state's Medicaid program, expanding healthcare coverage for uninsured children, increasing funding for New York's public education programs, and property tax relief.

NYSSCPA Committee, IRS Discuss E-filing and Collection Issues

NEW YORK—The NYSSCPA’s Relations with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Committee met with IRS representatives during its annual Liaison Meeting, held on Jan. 17 at the IRS’s offices at 290 Broadway in Manhattan. The program, which was developed by Subcommittee Chair Gerard I. AICPA Committee Recommends Federal Mobility Provision

The AICPA’s Special Committee on Mobility recently issued a report recommending a federally mandated mobility provision in order to facilitate CPAs and CPA firms that practice across state lines. As it stands now, CPAs practicing outside of the state in which they are licensed must often first register or pay a fee, even if their business is being conducted solely over the Internet.
