Legislature to Choose New Comptroller

ALBANY—Former New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi’s replacement will be selected by the state Legislature from candidates first recommended by a screening panel, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and legislative leaders announced Jan. 9.
The Comptroller Screening Panel, which will be comprised of three individuals with experience in government and finance, will 1hoose up to five candidates for the Legislature’s consideration.

IRS Explains Claims Procedure for Tax Relief and Health Care Act
of 2006

As outlined on page 4 of the January 2007 issue of The Trusted Professional, various deductions that were extended through 2007 by the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006 (TRHCA) will not appear on the 2006 Form 1040. Subsequently, the IRS issued IR-2006-195 that explains how to claim these deductions.
