NEW YORK—Among
the topics covered at its Jan. 25 meeting, the State Board for Public
Accountancy weighed the options of reforming the profession’s
current peer review system vis-à-vis the Society’s
white paper on peer review reform, and proposed loosening educational
requirements for substantial equivalency for licensure by endorsement.

Advocate Tackles Public Concerns |

WASHINGTON—The
Internal Revenue Service should increase their face-to-face contacts
and fix problems resulting from taxpayers’ refund service,
the National Taxpayer Advocate office said in a recent report to
Congress.

is the time of year for many NYSSCPA members to focus on their tax
practice, and those same members also may be looking forward to
the provision of a wide array of tax services to clients. Tax practitioners
should take a look back at recent federal, state and city tax law
proposals, issues and legislation that will affect the 2005 tax
year and also look forward to anticipate how those changes will
