We Thought You’d Like to Know

It’s that time of year again, and the New York State Society of CPAs has been busy making certain the local and national media are familiar with and taking advantage of our members’ expertise and knowledge in the tax and accounting fields. This includes a 15-week series on taxes that is running on Saturday mornings at 6:15 a.m. on ABC television. To go through April 12, the series features NYSSCPA President-Elect Jeffrey Hoops, Public Relations Committee Chair Ginger Broderick, and Public Relations Committee member Alan Kahn, who are alternating interviews during the 15-week period.

The Society also has participated in two spots for “Tax Tuesday” on Fox News television and been mentioned in articles in the Observer-Dispatch, the New York Post, Newsday and the Democrat & Chronicle.

At the end of January, the Daily News began a weekly tax-related column with the Society and has scheduled a two-day call-in panel of NYSSCPA members for mid-March. The Post-Standard will conduct a similar one-day call-in panel this month.

These items are just a sample of the publicity that has involved the Society during tax season. As you know, this is an important time of year, and the media is looking to you for quotes that will make an impact on their readership and viewership. Your preparation for making press contacts is in full play now and, if you haven’t already, you should begin making follow-up calls to those reporters and media outlets who said they would be interested in speaking to you.

If you are interested in working with your local media doing tax-time interviews, feel free to contact NYSSCPA Public Relations staff members Lois Whitehead at lwhitehead@nysscpa.org or Sanjay Paranandi at sparanandi@nysscpa.org, and they’ll help put you in the tax spotlight.
