NEW YORK—The New York State Board for Public Accountancy met Nov. 15 in Manhattan to discuss a full agenda of items, the most pressing of which included the AICPA’s proposed Ethics Interpretation 101-16 and a report from the Board’s Peer Review Task Force.

Hevesi Re-Elected as Comptroller Audit Work Continues

ALBANY—In spite of government inquiries over improper use of a state driver for his ailing wife, New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi defeated J. Christopher Callaghan and was re-elected for another term. Hevesi defeated Callaghan 59 percent to 39 percent, a defeat that was larger than many pollsters had predicted. Continue...

New York to Accept Out-of-State Ethics CPE

NEW YORK—State Board for Public Accountancy Executive Secretary Dan Dustin on Nov. 15 announced that the State Education Department is now interpreting a provision in the Commissioner’s Regulations 70.6(c)(4) to permit the Department to accept four hours of ethics continuing professional education completed in another state, so long as the out-of-state course or program is offered and conducted by a sponsor approved by that state’s licensing authority or the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, under standards substantially equivalent to those of New York’s State Education Department.
