Social Security Reform Partnership

At New York State Society of CPAs’ headquarters, executive directors and volunteer leaders from the nine largest CPA state societies discussed a Social Security reform initiative proposed by the Texas Society of CPAs. These accounting organizations hope to assist public policy makers in evaluating realistic solutions to the issue.
Agreeing that this important issue fits well with its financial expertise, the NYSSCPA Executive Committee passed a resolution saying it will join other state societies in supporting this reform initiative.

New York — A New York State Education Department official hopes to reform the accounting profession from the inside out by making changes to state regulation with or without accompanying legislative measures.

Johanna Duncan-Poitier, the deputy commissioner for Higher Education and the Professions, told the New York State Accountancy Board that her department planned to become more aggressive in pushing for change.

“At this time last year, we thought (2004) was going to be the year we’d see legislation,” she said. “Then, 2004 felt like déjà vu. Now, this is going to be the year….we can’t wait for legislation.”

FAE Increases Money for Scholarships
