Message From the President

By Charles Weintraub, Staten Island Chapter President

The holiday season is upon us. Look out for the Grinch; tax season is around the corner.

On Nov. 8, we had our annual all-day tax seminar at the College of Staten Island, which was chaired by Richard Wismer of Maltese, Potter, & LaMarca, LLP. Samuel Dyckman, CPA, JD, LLM, spoke on the highlights of the new changes in the tax laws. The event was well attended and very informative. Thanks, Richard, the seminar was a great success!

On Nov. 1, we had our annual Bowl-a-Thon fundraiser for Batten Disease. Gerald LoVerde chaired the event and organized many sponsors and promotions benefiting the terrible disease (see letter and photos from the event above). Jerry was awarded an appreciation plaque for his hard work on behalf of the New York State Society of CPAs. This event was a rewarding experience for all who participated. Thanks, Jerry, your help raised a lot of hopes, spirits and money!

Please remember that the following events have been scheduled:

Educational Seminars:
Auditing Standards and New Pronouncements: Jan. 6, 2004, at the Renaissance Catering Hall, chaired by Curt Philpazak.
Empire Zone: May 13, 2004, place to be determined, chaired by Charles Weintraub.

Social Events:
Christmas Party: Dec. 9, at Bocelli’s Restaurant, chaired by Charles Weintraub.
Installation Dinner: Date and place to be determined, chaired by Charles Weintraub.

As you can see from the above, we have a full calendar and we are always looking for new faces and assistance.

Hoping everyone enjoys the upcoming events and has a not-so-taxing tax season. Until next time….
