Message From the President By Mark Koziel, Buffalo Chapter President The Buffalo Chapter has been quite busy over the past month, and it will continue to be. In November, the Cooperation with the Bar Committee hosted a meeting on “Professional Planning or a Participant in Fraud?” There were 25 attendees at the event and the response was quite positive. Look for future programs being planned by this committee. The Accounting and Auditing Committee hosted the fifth annual Audit Training for staff members. There were 12 attendees at the all-day event. Again, the A&A Committee did a wonderful job on this program. The A&A Committee is planning a media presentation to the Buffalo News in December. This is a way for our chapter to meet with reporters and inform them on reading financial statements and understanding corporate financial information. The Members in Industry Committee in conjunction with the Financial Executives Institute hosted a dinner meeting on the topic of Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404. Holding joint meetings with FEI is a wonderful way for our chapter to get together with CFOs from local area businesses. On Dec. 8 there is another such joint meeting with guest speaker Jennifer Reingold, author of Final Accounting – Ambition, Greed and the Fall of Arthur Andersen. You can register online through the Buffalo Chapter Web page by clicking on the “Find Chapters” link at www.nysscpa.org. Finally, Dec. 11 and 12 is the 50th annual Tax Institute. We want this to be the best yet. This is one of the longest-standing traditions in the Buffalo Chapter and the State Society. Check out the registration form on the web. Mark J. Koziel can be reached at 716-316-7329 or markkoziel@adelphia.net. |
