A Letter from NYSSCPA President-Elect Jeffrey R. Hoops

As you know, the accounting profession has undergone and is continuing to undergo substantial change in practically all areas. As president-elect of the New York State Society of CPAs, I am offering each of you an opportunity to participate in molding that change, change that will undoubtedly affect us all.

The Society has more than 60 statewide committees that cover all areas of the profession. Our comprehensive structure, designed to better meet the needs of all our members, is composed of six divisions, four of which reflect the current practice specialty areas of professionals in private practice and industry. Additionally, one is geared to the future enhancement of the profession, and one focuses on the operations of the Society.

The committees serve the members of the Society, promote a favorable image of the profession in the eyes of the general public, and create a forum where members can interact with their peers and discuss the important issues facing the Society and the profession. The Society relies on the time and dedication of committee members to carry out its extensive professional and educational activities. Those appointed to a committee enjoy the prestige of having a significant influence on both the profession and the Society. You will benefit personally from the opportunity to develop technical, professional and leadership skills and to expand the network of your peer contacts.
