Website of the Monthwww.asp.comBy Frank DeCandido An Application Service Provider (ASP) is defined by the ASP Industry Consortium as a business that delivers and manages applications and computer service from remote data centers to multiple users via the Internet or private network. ASPs are companies that run, manage and host applications and charge per usage. The website www.asp.com unites buyers and providers of ASP products and services. Contents include free resources to find ASPs as well as industry news, research and events. This ASP site is an information portal that allows buyers and providers of ASP products and services to communicate, gain access to information and establish commerce relationships. Potential buyers can research the ASP marketplace by reading news, white papers and press releases; they can interact with one another to share experiences, and they can find appropriate providers, based upon the criteria they enter in the search tool. ASP.com tackles two problems facing providers today: buyers’ lack of knowledge and the need to increase market reach. Providers overcome the buyers’ lack of knowledge by posting news and information, participating in the buyer community, and profiling their businesses. Providers can expand market reach by profiling themselves on this website. Frank J. DeCandido, of Prudential Securities Inc. in New York City, is a member of the NYSSCPA Emerging Technologies Committee. |
