Society Offers Members New Privacy Option Online

By William J. Pape

The New York State Society of CPAs has implemented a new privacy option that will allow members to have greater control over the use and appearance of their name and contact information on the NYSSCPA website at www.nysscpa.org. Members have the ability to implement these new options via their Member Profile web page or by contacting the membership department at membership@nysscpa.org or (800) 633-6310.

The Society does not share the membership list with any person or company that is not authorized by the Board of Directors. Member contact information is shared with officers of the state’s 17 chapters to facilitate chapter activities.

Member names and contact information are available on the NYSSCPA website in two ways: all committee members are listed on each respective committee site, and all chapter members are listed by their last name on each respective chapter site.

The Society does not sell, loan or otherwise provide the membership list to any outside entity except with the express permission of the Board of Directors, such as in limited instances to NYSSCPA affinity partners, like MBNA, which offers a low-interest credit card. Members may opt to not share their information at all, to not receive of continuing professional education (CPE) e-mail notifications, to choose where they wish to receive Society mailings, and to limit or completely shield contact information that could appear on the NYSSCPA website.

The Member Profile web page will allow a member to choose from the following options for displaying a member’s name and firm information on related nysscpa.org web listings:

  • Show my name and firm info on the listings
  • Exclude my name as well as all my firm information from the listings
  • Exlude only my firm address from the listings
  • Exlude only my e-mail address from the listings

Every member of the Society and anyone who has registered for a Foundation for Accounting Education (FAE) course has a Member Profile web page at nysscpa.org. It is accessible by clicking the Your Information hyperlink at the left-hand side of the homepage. In addition to this new privacy option, members may update all of their contact information, pay their NYSSCPA dues and review their records of CPE courses taken under the auspices of the FAE.

Please contact the membership department if you have any questions about this new policy.
