Society Website Introduces New Stock Ticker

By Cori L. Gabbard

The Society’s website, nysscpa.org, now features its own customizable stock ticker. Members can check stock prices on multiple indices or program the ticker to keep them updated on the performance of particular securities.

The Society introduced this latest website addition thanks to a number of member requests for a way to get late breaking stock quotes and business news.

“Members were saying that they really like our site but had to go to other sources to look up daily stock quotes,” website Managing Editor Kyle J. Booth said. “Having a stock ticker on our site means that members will not only spend more time at nysscpa.org, but also spend less time having to surf the Internet for the information they are looking for. Their time is valuable. So for us, this is about making our website as member-centered as possible.”

Like the tickers that run along the bottom of financial news programs, the Society stock ticker appears along the bottom of the web page, streaming late-breaking stock quotes. The information is updated every 15 minutes.

To access the ticker, members can go to the Society’s home page and click on the ticker banner in the left-hand column. The ticker will then be visible across the bottom of the home page.

Users can view overall figures for the Nasdaq, S&P 500, and Dow Jones as well as individual stocks, but they can also personalize the ticker with their own stock choices, which will then appear each time they visit the site.

“Adding your own choices of which stocks are represented on the ticker is very easy. We’ve tested this feature and found it user-friendly,” Booth said. “All a user has to do is highlight the fill-in boxes, press the delete key on his or her computer to clear it, type in the symbols for the stocks he or she wants to see, and then click Change.”

Booth said the stock ticker will help the website staff meet its goal of making nysscpa.org an even more useful resource.
