CPA License Plate Available
Ride with Pride
By Lillie Balinova
Customized CPA license plates are now available through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. The DMV reports that licensed CPAs from throughout the state are placing their orders and that CPAs have had a number of questions. Below are answers to common inquiries.
Can a retired CPA order the plates?
A retired New York state CPA can still drive with pride by providing the DMV a copy of his or her inactive license.
Is it possible to purchase a second set of plates for a spouse's car?
CPAs can order an additional set of plates for a second or spouse's car by including a note with that request to the DMV, along with the copy of their New York state CPA license and automobile registration.

Do I have to be an NYSSCPA member to order the plates?
Customized CPA plates are also available to New York CPAs who are not NYSSCPA members. Any CPA licensed by the state may purchase the plate.
How do I order?
To order the customized CPA plates, call the DMV at (518) 474-6660 during business hours. (Stay on the line until after the end of the recorded message.) The initial cost of the standard license plate, which covers the current registration period, is $34.50 with an annual renewal fee of $25. The cost of a personalized vanity plate (up to six characters) is $63 with an annual renewal fee of $50.
