Independence Rules and Other Timely Issues to Be Addressed at Upcoming Auditing Conference

By William M. Stocker III

The Foundation for Accounting Education will hold its annual Auditing Conference on Dec. 11, 2001. In the morning, participants will hear an update of the Auditing Standards Board’s recent and pending activities from board member Sally Hoffman. They will also hear an update on the newly adopted American Institute of CPAs’ independence rules from key AICPA staff. Auditing issues handled by the AICPA’s Technical Issues Committee and the Institute’s technical hotline will be discussed, too.

Lunch will include a leading legal expert on financial fraud who will provide insight on the underlying causes and the auditor’s role.

In the afternoon participants will learn about pending international quality control standards that will catch many practitioners by surprise and greatly interest even those who do not have an international practice. Participants will also receive an explanation of practical audit procedures to detect common weaknesses in network security, assess audit risk, plan audit procedures and provide valuable recommendations to clients.

Following these presentations, there will be a demonstration of a paperless audit system with a discussion of the real-world implementation of such a system. The day will conclude with a presentation of the audit and accounting issues resulting from the newly issued SFAS 141 and 142.

The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:05 p.m. at the New York Helmsley Hotel at 212 E. 42nd St., New York, N.Y. For more information click here .
