FAE Reaffirms Strategic Goals for Professional Education

FAE Reaffirms Strategic Goals for Professional Education

The NYSSCPA Board of Directors at a recent meeting heard a presentation on the strategic educational goals of the Foundation for Accounting Education and also approved the Society’s 2005–2006 annual audit report.

NEW YORK—The NYSSCPA Board of Directors, at its meeting at Society headquarters in Manhattan Sept. 20, heard a reaffirmation from the FAE Trustees that since professional education is a strategic goal of the Society, the availability of such educational programs to members—in the form of continuing professional educational conferences and seminars as coordinated by the Foundation for Accounting Education—should take precedence over profitability. Additionally, the Directors approved the 2005–2006 annual audit report of the Society, conducted by audit firm Goldstein Golub Kessler LLP.

NY State Issues $700 Million in STAR Rebate Checks

In what Governor George E. Pataki called an “extension of the successful STAR (School Tax Relief) tax relief plan,” 3.4 million direct rebate checks, totaling approximately $700 million, were mailed to New York state homeowners by the NYS Tax Department beginning in September, with the purpose of providing “additional relief from their school property taxes.” Continue...
