PCAOB Inspections Pick Up Speed

Port Out, Starboard Home

Nassau Chapter President Robert J. Schaffer (left) and Nassau Chapter Executive Board member Robert B. Pickus enjoy a scenic tour around the New York City harbor.

On Aug. 24, Schaffer and Pickus set sail on The Spirit of the Hudson with more than 20 young CPAs from the Nassau, Suffolk and Manhattan-Bronx chapters. The cruise was the first of several Young CPA events planned for the coming year, and served as a valuable opportunity for NYSSCPA members to network among themselves and meet young banking and legal professionals who also came aboard.

The Society would like to pay special gratitude to Edward Behar, chair of the Nassau Chapter’s Young CPAs Committee, for organizing the event.

President's Commentary

By John J. Kearney

Through governance changes that began taking shape more than two years ago under past President Jo Ann Golden, democracy runs deep at the Society. The Foundation for Accounting Education, led by its president Jeff Hoops, and for which I currently am serving as vice president, has followed suit and taken steps to ensure a more practical, representative method for selecting its leaders.
