Committee Close Up By Nereida R. Gomez and Ernest J. Markezin, Committee Services The New York State Society of CPAs’ committees continue to be active in many areas. Here is a glimpse of the latest events and developments from some of the Society’s more than 60 committees. Not-for-Profit Works with Financial Accounting Standards The Not-for-Profit Organizations Committee, chaired by David Ashenfarb, worked with the Financial Accounting Standards Committee, chaired by Robert Dyson, to respond to an issue relating to whether unconditional promises to give should fall within the AICPA’s Accounting Standards Executive Committee’s scope. Their comments were incorporated into the Society’s formal response. Many Not-for-Profit Committee members have been active on the publication front, contributing to The CPA Journal, industry book reviews and other publications. These members include: Ashenfarb, Julie Floch, Cheryl Olson, Allan Blum, Kenneth Cerini, Michael McNee and Derek Flanagan. SEC Practice Holds Conference The SEC Practice Committee, chaired by George I. Victor, held a conference on Sept. 9 on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Held in New York City, the event drew close to 300 registrants. For more information, see the stories on page 1 and pages 6–7. Mergers and Acquisitions’ Guest Speaks on International Tax The Mergers and Acquisitions Committee, chaired by Randy Schwartzman, had a guest speaker on international tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions. The session was well received.
