Board Approves Creation of New Chapters

New York -- In an effort to better serve its members, the New York State Society of CPAs board of directors has given the Society the “green light” to create six new chapters, including three in the New York City area. (Article)

NYSSCPA.ORG users most commonly access the Web site while they are at work. NetTracker statistics for July imply that the Society members and other professionals who use the site regularly perceive it as a work resource. (Article)

Medical and Disability-Related Inquiries:

In July, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC),the federal agency responsible for enforcing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), issued policy guidance on disability-related inquiries and medical examinations during the employment relationship. (Article)

Young CPAs Recent Happenings

The Buffalo Young CPAs were a hit at this year’s Winefest on August 26. The event had about 2,000 attendees and the Young CPAs were there in full force, working the wine tents, registration, and beer and pop tents and performing various other duties. (Article)

With the energy experts predicting another brutal winter, the New York State Society of CPAs is offering a fuel savings program through HEAT USA, the country’s largest fuel-buying group, that could mean significant savings on heating bills this year. (Article)

Hofsta University Hosts COAP Alumni Homecoming

To further the goal of providing ongoing college and career advice to its graduates, the Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program recently hosted a reunion for the class of 2000 at Hofstra University. (Article)

CPAs and Bankers Network at Golf Outing

The NYSSCPA Cooperation with Bankers and Other Credit Grantors Committee, chaired by Steven M. Rosenberg, held its Annual Golf and Tennis Classic on August 14 at the Ridgeway Country Club in White Plains, N.Y. (Article)

Westchester

The Westchester Chapter has been quite busy this year. In June, members attended the annual Westchester Banker’s Association dinner and kicked off the new fiscal year with our first organizational meeting. (Article)

International Relations

On May 1, the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency introduced GST/HST Telefile, a new service that allows qualifying business clients to file Goods & Services/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) returns by telephone. The secure and confidential service is being offered to business clients by invitation only. (Article)
