October 2000

Westchester

By Frank Pellegrino, CPA, President

The Westchester Chapter has been quite busy this year. In June, members attended the annual Westchester Banker’s Association dinner and kicked off the new fiscal year with our first organizational meeting.

In July, Anne Colucci and company organized an afternoon at a Hudson Valley Renegades minor league baseball game. The event was a complete success—we sold every available ticket. Based upon the success of the Hudson Valley Renegades game and picnic, the chapter is planning to attend a "Broadway" show at the Westchester dinner theater in the spring and is planning on doubling the number of tickets to be purchased for a 2001 Renegades baseball game. More information about these events can be found in the Westchester Chapter newsletter.

Many of our committees have already begun to hold their organizational meetings, including the Information and Technology (IT) Committee, whose membership includes 60 IT professionals in Westchester County. Sponsored by Fleet Bank and the Westchester Information and Technology Group, the IT Committee held its first meeting on Sept. 12. The meeting, titled E-commerce for Small Businesses, was held at the Landmark in Tarrytown, N.Y., and focused on how to design e-commerce Web sites.

Alan Weiner, immediate past president of the New York State Society of CPAs, spoke about limited liability partnerships (LLPs) and limited liability companies (LLCs) at the September meeting of the Local Practitioners Committee.

In addition, the Personal Financial Planning Committee hosted a meeting on September 27 titled Enhancing Client Service Possibilities Through Personal Financial Planning. Robert A. Clarfeld spoke at the meeting, which was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains, N.Y.

The chapter’s annual Tax Seminar will take place the last Saturday in October, focusing on LLPs and LLCs.

Mike Panzarino, a member of the chapter’s Executive Board and chair of the Accounting Careers Committee, is looking for members that would like to speak before eager young minds considering the accounting profession as a career choice. As the home of two major graduate schools of business, Fordham University Graduate School of Business Administration and New York University’s Leonard N. Stern Graduate School of Business, Westchester County has been an ideal place for New York businesses to develop future leaders.
