Message from the President

By Z. Joseph Tax, Westchester Chapter President

I know how swamped you must be. In the past, I rarely read any of the prior presidents’ messages (I was always too busy!) and now I’m writing them myself. I hope my message reaches some of you, and for those that it does, pick up the phone and get in touch—I haven’t received even one call.

After a very hectic May spent organizing all the committees, June seemed to be on autopilot. The first month went very smoothly. The Westchester Economic Forum: Profiles in Success on June 12 and the popular golf outing on June 23 were both great successes. Of course, showing up in my Hawaiian shirt at an event filled with bankers dressed in suits was probably a cause for some talk! At least I was comfortable!

Frank Pelligrino again chaired the Westchester COAP program successfully. I met 17 very dedicated high school students; they all received certificates of completion at the Davenport Club on July 1. At least 60 people attended the networking party for young professionals from four local associations that was held the next day, July 2. And the Westchester Chapter’s 4th Annual Hudson Valley Renegades Outing on July 12 was completely sold out. I attended the annual Leadership Conference, which was held in Saratoga July 13–15. I would like to thank all the chairmen and committees involved in planning these (and future) events.

The fall season is shaping up very nicely. We have four evening events planned over the next three months. First, on Sept. 18 at the Crowne Plaza in White Plains, we are planning a seminar to be given by a representative from the Internal Revenue Service on Electronic Filing, not only for 1040s but also business and payroll tax returns (3 credits). Then, on Oct. 16 the CFO Committee, in conjunction with the Rockland Chapter CFO Committee, will present a joint session on Executive Compensation Issues at the Tarrytown Hilton (one credit).

The Officers Visitation will take us back to the White Plains Crowne Plaza on Nov. 20, where you will receive two more credits on ethics. On Nov. 14 we are scheduled for another fun evening at the Westchester Dinner Theater, where we will see the musical production of “Swing.”

Please look in our chapter’s newsletter for registration and contact information regarding these events.

And remember, this is your chapter. Please get involved and show support for the hard work being done on your behalf.
