Chapter Changes Name for Stronger Geographic Recognition

The Central Southern Tier Chapter will now be known as the Finger Lakes Chapter.
When the new officers took over the Central Southern Tier Chapter on June 1, 2003, one of the goals that came out of the first meeting was to look at the possibility of changing the name of the Central Southern Tier Chapter to the Finger Lakes Chapter. After meeting with the past officers and discussing the issue, the chapter’s Executive Committee approved the motion to change the name of the chapter on June 20, 2003.
One of the major reasons why we wanted to change the name was so that other chapters would better identify the location of the chapter upon hearing its name. While attending the third annual Leadership Conference in Saratoga this year, I had four people ask me where the Central Southern Tier Chapter was located.
The second reason why we wanted to change the name of the chapter was that we felt it was confusing to have a Central Southern Tier Chapter and a Southern Tier Chapter. By our having a completely different name, people will no longer confuse the two chapters. We are very pleased that the executive officers of the New York State Society of CPAs approved our name change in August.
We look forward to our new identity as the Finger Lakes Chapter and hope to continue the momentum in this young chapter.
